Deep Learning and Augmented Reality in EFLT: Insights from a Literature Review and Indonesian Classroom Case Study

Despite growing global interest in integrating Deep Learning and Augmented Reality (AR) in language education, there is limited research focusing on their combined application in English as a Foreign Language Teaching (EFLT) within the Indonesian context, where technological access and teacher readiness vary widely. This study comprises two parts: a literature review synthesizing international and Indonesian research on the integration of Deep Learning and AR in EFLT, and a reflective case study examining the practical implementation of AR in an Indonesian junior secondary classroom. Findings from the literature indicate that AR enhances student motivation, vocabulary acquisition, and contextual understanding in EFLT. The case study, conducted in a Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) classroom using the AR tool Assembler Edu, demonstrates promising outcomes in student engagement and vocabulary development, despite challenges such as limited device access and infrastructure constraints. The study highlights the need for targeted teacher training, improved technological infrastructure, and further research to develop culturally relevant AR tools and scalable models for Deep Learning implementation in Indonesian EFLT.
