Model Pengajian Ketarjihan sebagai Media Pemberdayaan Literasi Zakat: Studi Pengabdian di Pimpinan Cabang Muhammadiyah Tanjung Karang

This community service initiative was motivated by the suboptimal understanding and practice of zakat within the Muhammadiyah Branch Leadership (PCM) of Tanjung Karang, Mataram. Although Muhammadiyah provides a progressive zakat jurisprudence framework through the Himpunan Putusan Tarjih (HPT), public comprehension remains conventional and rigid. This situation has led to a lack of innovation in the management and distribution of zakat as a strategic social instrument. The primary aim of this program was to enhance zakat literacy among congregants and PCM administrators through Tarjih-based studies and to encourage the establishment of functional zakat units at the mosque level. The method employed involved educational and mentoring activities based on Tarjih lectures conducted over three sessions. These activities included interactive lectures, group discussions, and joint development of follow-up plans with PCM and mosque leaders. The implementation process adopted a participatory and socio-cultural approach to ensure participants' well-received and understood the materials. The results indicated an increased understanding of zakat mal and zakat Fitrah by HPT guidelines and the emergence of initiatives to establish zakat units in local mosques as a preliminary step toward strengthening community-based zakat movements. The main challenges encountered were the low participation of younger generations, limited time for material delivery, and insufficient institutional coordination in implementation. This program has positively contributed to the grassroots application of Muhammadiyah’s zakat jurisprudence and has opened opportunities for the sustainable development of community-based zakat initiatives.
